Have you ever had one of those days when nothing goes you’re way?

Two days ago, I hadn’t rested well for over a week. I had a free day and thought”awww, I’ll get some rest”. Little did you know, the people I live with are making plans.

Mom was feeling good and decided she wanted to go work out and wanted me to go with her. She pops her head in my room and screeches wake-up, sleepyhead. I told her to “go away”. When she left, I was wide awake, so I got up and had breakfast. I tried my best to relax and sleep while she was gone. I was starting to doze off when she walked in again.

Barry was not at home, so I let my mother know I was going to take a nap. I couldn’t get comfy in bed, so I headed for my favorite chair in the living room. I nicely asked her to let me nap.

I got comfy under my blanket and got ready for a good ole’ snooze. I was starting to relax and kinda dozey, when mom felt it necessary to check on me, in her high heeled boots. She does not have a clue how to walk quietly and on these hardwood floors. I politely told her I was fine and to please let me take a nap.

She started some laundry while I was snoozing. The alarm on the machine kept going off. She got frustrated and woke me up. I got the washer going and headed back to sleep. It wasn’t 10 minutes later and it was buzzing again. I fixed the problem again and attempted to go back to sleep. The same cycle repeated so many times to the point that I was aggravated. Mom finally got her wash done and I got about an hours nap. All that managed to do was make me sleepier.

Barry walked in at 4pm, so it was time to get dinner going and spend time with my sweetheart.

After dinner, I thought I’d relax s little and dozed off in my chair. About 2 hours later Barry had a meeting at the church. He woke me to say he was leaving. There I was, wide awake again.

I attempted to sleep while he was gone without success. He was home in a few hours and we got comfy for the evening. We sat in the living room watching NCIS and I dozed off again. I woke Barry to go to bed. I had just fallen asleep when he woke me up to let me know he was going to the living room, because he could not sleep. I tried for a few minutes to get back to sleep and I was wide awake again. I headed to the living room to watch TV around 3am.  I think I dozed off for a few minutes after 5am.

At 5:45am, Barry was rustling around in his chair and woke me up. It was time for him to get ready for work. I told him I was getting in the bed and if I was asleep when he left, please do not wake me to say goodbye. When I woke up at 1:30 pm the later that day, I felt a little better.

I had some lunch, read a few emails and Barry was home early, due to the weather. He fixed the washing machine while I went back to sleep. I woke up in time to watch the Wednesday night church service on the internet and back to sleep I went. I woke around 1am and drug Barry off to bed. He was up and off to work this morning . Kissed me goodbye and I stayed in bed till 9am. I felt drugged getting up this morning, but I am not sleepy. I actually managed to get a day of rest. Thank you, God!

Daily Prompt: Through the Window

Go to the nearest window. Look out for a full minute. Write about what you saw.

Gazing through the window, I stand as still as possible, not wanting to scare the chickadees and nuthatches as they battle over the fresh bird seed.

A mockingbird sits patiently on the air conditioner as if he were hailing a cab. There is a huge gray squirrel perched on the rail by the steps. Past the steps, the ‘Corkscrew Willow‘ tree, crowded with a multitude of different birds all waiting to get to the feeders.

The little guys continue to devour the fresh bird seed. It is like an open sign has been hung on the door of a new market.

Oops…here come the turtle doves, being their usual intrusive selves. They run the little guys off, break in line and make the rest of the crowd angry. A few of the purple finches try to join the Doves at the feeder, only to be run off by the biggest Dove. Turtle Doves are messy birds. They knock seeds all over the porch and ground, enabling a few of the braver birds to fly in to sneak a little bite.

Daily Prompt: Ode to a Playgroud

A place from your past or childhood, one that you’re fond of, is destroyed. Write it a memorial.

With deepest regrets, Fort Yargo State Park announced today that they would be replacing their treasured playground with  modern, child-friendly equipment before next season. The playground is closed through the winter, to allow for changes to be made.

The old playground has been around for many years and enjoyed by many children, growing up in the area.

Gone will be the giant sliding board that was a joy to ride. As a child, standing at the base of that ladder, it appeared to climb into the clouds. Once you reached the top, the angle of the slide and the slick surface of the board made you jump right back on the ladder for a second ride. You could spend hours just on that slide.

The wooden fort, that looked like a small lookout section of a real fort, will no longer be available to play Cowboys and Indians or girls against the boys. Whomever had control of the fort got to decide which games got played.

At the edge of the woods was a stand of metal tepees, that would no longer be there to stimulate the minds of children into a good game. Whichever one they decided to play.

Gone from this park will be a beloved playground and tons of incredible memories in the minds of the now grown-ups, that used to play here.

I hope they make the new area as cool as the last one. The original Fort Yargo playground will be hard to replace. It was awesome!!

Georgia Snow, Not!

Jared's Grocery Store Theory

Jared’s Grocery Store Theory (Photo credit: redjar)

In the past 47 years, or at least as long ad I can remember, people have panicked, raided the grocery stores, and driving like idiots at the mere mention of SNOW/ICE, in this area. Well, I am honestly shocked and surprised. They were talking like we would at least have s little ice. Guess what? No one nutted-up and bought every slice of bread in the southeast. Are we finally listening or is everyone just that broke? Either way, the sun will be out tomorrow and this mess will be forgotten.(till the next storm slides slightly south and the reporters want to get everyone all riled up!

It might snow in Georgia!

I grew up here in Georgia, so I am used to the weather changes and everything else that comes with them. When the weatherman or woman mentions that next ‘four-letter’ word (snow), it sets off the mad rush to the grocery store for bread and milk.  it reminds me of one of those old movies that involves a really good sale. There will be a mass of people banging on the store door waiting for someone to open it and then trampling all over each other to get inside.

I have an appointment in a few hours, I plan to stop at the grocery store for a few things. I’ll take some pictures if I can and post them later.

When I was younger, our weather could get bad, quick. It would shut the entire city down for weeks. Now that technology has improved and the weather is lighter; the need to clear out the grocery store, at the mere mention of snow is long gone.

The other side of this story is when there is a bit of ice and snow on the ground, remember how to drive! There are other people out on the road. If you aren’t thinking of your safety, think about those around you! Everyone needs to get home!
