Daily Prompt: Right to Health

Is access to medical care something that governments should provide, or is it better left to the private sector? Are there drawbacks to your choice?

In my opinion, the government has no place in the healthcare business, but I will admit that something needs   done.

Since 2009, Barry and I have frequented many hospitals and doctor’s offices. The trips for surgery in 2009 and 2011, were easy to deal with. Our insurance took care of almost everything and we had no trouble at all from the start.

When Barry’s stroke occurred in late o be 2012, it was as if we were in a different world. The bills were not filed correctly, nursing service was terrible, it was harder than normal to get an appointment at a doctor’s office; or if you needed an ex-ray or other test, the wait was even longer. It is getting to be crazy.

I have a rare genetic disorder that makes my body more than likely to form tumors through the body, benign or cancerous. It can show up overnight or make me feel bad for a few weeks.

Barry and I both need many check-ups and I have to stay on top of any issue that pops up.

I am truly not sure the private sector could do any better than the government. What I do know, is someone needs to figure things out, so that the healthcare system functions better and someone remembers that the patients are the important part in this picture, not the money or numbers.

Daily Prompt: Through the Window

Go to the nearest window. Look out for a full minute. Write about what you saw.

Gazing through the window, I stand as still as possible, not wanting to scare the chickadees and nuthatches as they battle over the fresh bird seed.

A mockingbird sits patiently on the air conditioner as if he were hailing a cab. There is a huge gray squirrel perched on the rail by the steps. Past the steps, the ‘Corkscrew Willow‘ tree, crowded with a multitude of different birds all waiting to get to the feeders.

The little guys continue to devour the fresh bird seed. It is like an open sign has been hung on the door of a new market.

Oops…here come the turtle doves, being their usual intrusive selves. They run the little guys off, break in line and make the rest of the crowd angry. A few of the purple finches try to join the Doves at the feeder, only to be run off by the biggest Dove. Turtle Doves are messy birds. They knock seeds all over the porch and ground, enabling a few of the braver birds to fly in to sneak a little bite.

You cannot catch my brain tumor, so please do not discount me!

Ok, finally got the keyboard to come up. I haven’t been
posting due to my eyesight. I have no problem with the “nice” coming out in
people, but where does all this negativity in people come from. When I was
younger, it was odd to see a disabled person out shopping. I, personally, think
it is wonderful to see senior adults and other disabled people getting out and
doing for themselves. Makes you feel good.

I ran into a couple of the most negative human beings on earth this week. Ironically, while out shopping. I was using the motorised shopping carts in both instances. At Kroger, the lady actually raised her voice and accused me of attempting to run over her when I only drove around her to get down the aisle. Then at Walmart, I was turning to go to the next aisle when I almost hit a lady and her shopping cart head on. I said “excuse me” and started around her. Her response was to state, “Good grief, I said I was sorry!” If one more person tells me to let someone have the cart, that really needs it. I think I’ll scream at them. But I do enjoy the look on their faces when I “tell them to tell it to my brain
tumor!” Priceless……

I still am not sure I understand either one, but what can I do? I intend to keep helping with the household duties, which include shopping. Just because my body doesn’t work like it used to, doesn’t mean I can’t shop!
